US Citizenship Test Practice (2025 Civics, 128 Questions)
At the naturalization interview, the officer asks up to 20 of the 128 questions on the 2025 civics test out loud, and you pass with 12 correct. Here you can study every question and answer for free (English, Chinese and Spanish), listen to an officer read each question, drill with flashcards, and take a practice test that follows the real rules. No sign-up; your progress stays in your browser.
How the 2025 civics test works
- If you filed your N-400 on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 2025 test: the officer asks up to 20 of 128 questions out loud; 12 correct passes and 9 wrong ends the test.
- Applicants 65 or older with 20 years as a permanent resident (65/20) are asked 10 of the 20 starred questions, need 6 correct, and may test in their own language.
- If you filed before October 20, 2025, you take the 2008 test (10 of 100 questions, 6 correct to pass). The 2008 test is in the app, not on the website yet.
- A few answers depend on you: your state’s senators, representative, governor and capital, plus the current President, Vice President, Speaker and Chief Justice. Enter your ZIP code to see yours.
The real test is spoken: the officer asks, you answer out loud
On the website you can read and tap. In the PathToUS Citizenship app, an AI officer reads each question, listens to your spoken answer and grades it, runs a full mock interview based on your own N-400, and drills English reading and writing.

Common questions
What is the difference between the 2025 and 2008 civics tests?
The 2025 test has 128 questions; you are asked up to 20 and need 12 correct. The 2008 test has 100 questions; you are asked 10 and need 6 correct. Which one you take depends on when you filed your N-400: on or after October 20, 2025 means the 2025 test.
Can I take the test in Chinese or Spanish?
Applicants who qualify under 50/20, 55/15 or 65/20 may test in their own language with an interpreter; translations are shown in the question list. Everyone else answers in English.
Do my answers have to match word for word?
No. The officer checks whether your answer means the same thing; the list shows the answers USCIS accepts, and any one of them is enough unless the question asks for more than one.
How do I answer the senator and governor questions?
Give the current officials for the state where you live. Enter your ZIP code on the question list or flashcards page to see them. If someone changes, answer with whoever holds the office on your test day.
